Fatuma Ibrahim Hakar

Fatuma Ibrahim Hakar serves as a nominated Member of the County Assembly (MCA) in Garissa County under the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party.

Beyond her political role, she is best known for her work as the CEO and founder of GirlKind Kenya, an organisation that advocates for the protection and empowerment of girls, especially in Northern Kenya.

Fatuma has been particularly vocal about the need to eliminate female genital mutilation (FGM), child marriage, and other gender-based practices.

In 2024, she publicly challenged political parties for sidelining women in nominations, especially in the Northeastern part of the country.

Through GirlKind Kenya, she partners with religious and community leaders to raise awareness about the health and rights risks associated with FGM.

This year, Fatuma was recognised as a national heroine during the Mashujaa Day celebrations to celebrate her relentless advocacy for girls’ rights and women’s empowerment in Northern Kenya.
